Initial Attempts At CLF Start

So last night, I finished watching the initial videos Sifu sent me, covering the four stances that will go into the CLF form, as well as breathing, and how they're to be combined and practiced together. This morning, drawing from that memory, I integrated it into my dawn workout. Since it was also my day to jump rope and run, this turned out to be a very leggy session. My thighs were burning afterward, and I needed to do a goju kata to kind of cool down, but I really enjoyed it... even though I botched the CLF stuff up pretty good, over and over again. I cut more than half of the attempts out of the video, but what I left is a fairly accurate depiction of how I was doing throughout. Given that this was an initial attempt, drawing from memory of seeing the video instruction one time only, I think things were going alright. It's definitely a worthwhile routine for the legs. Also, I would have trimmed the jump rope portion of this video down considerably too, but I liked how it looked from this angle, and so left it in. Please skip past if you're getting tired of seeing this old guy jumping around

  1. nice work, at around 23min when you are practicing cat stances. Make sure your back foot is perpendicular to your front foot, (your back toes should be facing the camera) making like an L shape the weight distribution between your front and back foot should be %70 in the back %30 in the front. stay light on your fron leg so that you can snap out a front kick if you need to. keep working :)

  3. Awesome background, beautiful place to train, very Zen. For the bow, get your left elbow up more, get the two elbows properly aligned with the shoulders. The only disadvantage training outdoors is that there are no mirrors, it's all based on feeling. Keep working on getting your horse stance stronger & lower. When you turn into the arrow stance, get that blocking hand above the head. Your cat stances looks pretty good. I see you got the FMK Adidas shorts! I like the situps you did upside down, I want to try that too but it hurts the back of my knees too much. Your jump roping is awesome, your fitness is good. Keep up the good work & thanks for letting us join in on your training.

  5. Haha! The shorts were a lucky guess, I suppose. It's warm now some mornings, and I saw these were half-off, so I bought them. Most mornings, it's still more comfortable to wear sweats up here, and in a couple months that temperature will start dipping. We get forty below in winter... not every day, but the thermometer rarely rises above zero. I'm just enjoying summer while it lasts
