My Fitness Standards for Now
I was working out at the gym the other day and I notice how much I regress. I used to be able to do
at least 6 reps of one-arm pushups. Now I can only do two. I was also able to perform 4 reps of handstand
push ups; but now I can only do two. My triceps' strength is level. I also notice that I cannot even perform as
many reps of front kick and side kick as a red rank in FMK would. My pullups are not so great either: I can
only execute 7 pull ups. On the bright side, I did not get rusty on the jump rope! I perform some tricks fine and I was able to jump rope for quite some time. Nonetheless, I did not feel guilty about where I am at even though I was slacking off but at the same time a martial artist should take his training very seriously. He should not allow laziness to come between him and his health. But there is also one big news to it: this exercise has probably been done before but I discover how to improve my kicks. Usually in the gym,
there are pulleys where people work out their triceps. As we all know a martial artist's body is supposed to
be totally strong; he should not neglect any muscle group in his body. I notice that these pulleys can be used to perform front kicks, side kicks, and probably back kicks! I do not doubt a bit that it will improve my kicking strength, speed and flexibility. I did not put much weight on the pulley because I was just trying them out. My other problem is I cannot perform the kicks without holding something. It is probably because of the weights. I wonder if I improve would I be able to perform these pulley kicks without holding anything... If anyone have any ideas to share on how I exercise, I would gladly appreciate it.

  1. Get on it Kang! Don't let yourself get lazy! You are not working full time, you have no kids, no wife, there are no Excuses! And since you are younger than most of us, you should be topping us all in fitness stats. Keep experimenting with the pulleys and let us know your results. I've never tried it myself but it is a good idea.

    1. Lol. You are so right! I have the utmost freedom to workout! I used to be more self-motivated but since I moved to New York... I don't know.. things have completely changed. I gotta say after that experience at the gym, it makes me want to work out more again. I could not show my fitness progress to you because... it was too embarrassing! I would have made a fool out of FMK if I did show you the video. But yeah, I should be in the gym again tomorrow. No excuses like you said!

  2. Make discipline your best friend and take this chapter of your life as an opportunity to be reborn, refreshed! Take it as a renaissance. Two years ago i've stayed at the hospital for 4 months without any equipment. When i came back home i was far, way far from where i was before, but i took each step, one by one and now i'm a stronger version of myself. You can get better, believe, and put a strategy to it. Have a nice renaissance!

    1. Man, I feel everything you said. What matters the most is that I accept the fact that there is a lot for me to work on. I can get better still...even better than I was when I sent my Zen Fitness progress. Maybe this is an opportunity for me to try harder so I can get to the Sidai level for Freddie's Modern Kung Fu. Maybe this could be a lesson I can teach to others who are interested in the real martial arts. Thanks for the powerful message. Peace.

  3. I don't have much to offer beyond the advice already given above. But I can definitely relate to the experience of 'losing it' and then working to gain it back. This can be done, for sure. Discipline is the path. Maybe with the goal of reaching Sidai rank, you'll find your motivation

    1. Thanks. I think you offer me a good advice: discipline. That's the only way I can get it back. Yes, I do want to get to the Sidai Rank. Once I reach that level, I will have to work even harder.
