Another Exciting Blog Post

I've been slacking on my weekly blog posts. I'm going to aim to get back on track with it. I don't think I make the most interesting posts most of the time, but maybe if I stick with it, something interesting will come out.

I didn't get to do the live training last week. I was very busy working at the beginning of the week, then I went to stay with my family for a few days. I did a little bit of outdoors practice when I was there. It's nothing amazing, but I did record it. It's nice to be out in the fresh air. I'll share my video. The jumping jacks part might be boring to watch.

There's been a lot of talk about who is a real martial artist, and so far there have been no women that make the cut. There's a woman named Jade Xu who has won the Wushu World Championship several times. I don't know about all of her training habits, but I like watching some of her videos on You Tube. From what I see, I consider her to be a real martial artist, but different people have different views on that. And, like I said, I don't know everything about her, just that she's been in some movies and won some championships.

  2. Definitely a very nice change of scenery. There is something that is very calming and meditative about training close to nature, it makes the video look very nice.

    1. It's amazing how calming it was to be outside in the country again. It's nice to see the sunset without buildings and trees blocking the view.
I'm trying to learn how to be that calm and at peace when I'm in other environments too. Nature is one of the best things in the world, but sometimes you just have to be in town and around people.

  3. Good job Todai Lian. Maybe I should check out Jade Xu and see for myself how talented she is. Another woman I consider to be talented is Chloe Bruce. She is extremely flexible and she kicks pretty fast. But I doubt she is a Martial Artist. Anyway I will check out Jade Xu.

    1. I looked up Chloe Bruce. I think I had seen her before, but I didn't know who she was. She's definitely talented with the flexibility and kicks. Watching her makes me think I ought to start practicing more, lol.

    2. Lol. She made me feel the same way too. I don't know if I will ever get to her level of kicking but I will never know unless I try. Also I looked up Jade Xu. She is extremely talented! She might be the next Jet Li.

  4. I like how we begin to raise questions about what a martial "artist" is. I don't know about you, Lian, but Sifu's definition of a martial artist--which makes me think more of a samurai than a competitor--has influenced how I regard an artist's life commitment to the ultimate aim of what he/she does.

That said, while I know how serious the implications of what we learn from Sifu are, I am glad that I don't have to watch Sifu put his life on the line in combat but see his ability to move fast and precisely (and those insane push ups!) to find inspiration.
