Online Martial Arts

I think I had missed making a post last week. I'd better make one now, so I don't skip another week.

I've been doing the live training about twice a week now. I would do it more, but it is difficult with my kids. I think I'm able to pick up on more this way. I think it is a great idea to train this way. Some people probably would think I'm crazy training online like this, but I think I've developed quite a bit since I have started. I'm really glad to finally be studying the Martial Arts. I've been wanting to for many, many years.

I was wondering what Sifu wants, as far as videos from the online Todai. I don't know if he would want a weekly video or if it doesn't matter much since we are training live now. I like to make some videos to record what I've been doing during training and to track my progress. I also have been trying to use my videos to find more balance for myself. At first I hated my videos and couldn't watch them without cringing. I figured, because of my reaction, I could possibly use the videos to improve myself more. I sometimes like to do things that are difficult or uncomfortable just to become a more well-balanced person. I just try to allow myself to grow comfortably and not worry much about whether I am terrible or great, as long as I am making progress. If I weren't making any progress, I shouldn't be doing it. But I feel like I am learning, so I'm not going to give up.

I think I just accidently deleted my "Training With Children" post on here. At least I still have my daughter's videos on my You Tube page. I guess I'd better be more careful what I'm clicking on.

  1. I'm glad to hear that the online training is going well for you. I still gotta get better at allocating my time the best to benefit all those I train directly and for the online Todai's as well. There is just so much to work on to begin with and to cram it all in 1 or 2 hours seems to be too short of a time. You are doing a good job picking things up through visual learning and following. We also have to figure out the best placement for the camera to give you the best visual angle so that you benefit more out of the training. As far as progress videos are concerned, now that we are training live, you are no longer required to make weekly progress videos unless for some reason you miss out on your live training. Though I still encourage you to make progress videos as it not only tracks your development but also will help promote the kwoon. It will also be fun for your daughter to look back on those videos when she gets older as well.

    1. I see that it could be tough for you to balance everything. It would probably help if I can train online on your slower days sometimes so it would be easier for you to interact with everyone.
You're right about my daughter looking back on the videos later. I think that will be really neat for her, especially if she stays so interested in the Martial Arts.

    2. Yeah it would be good if she stays interested in the Martial Arts. She would be welcome in FMK. People think I am crazy for training online too. They believe I would be better off training with an instructor face to face. To tell you the truth I would do that if there was a kwoon like FMK but I don't see any kwoon like it. Since I join FMK, I feel like I am more confident in myself. I am still self-conscious but I know one day I can get over it. Also in all honesty, combat techniques are not hard to learn! All you need to do is to watch the instructor and listen. But it requires hard work to make the techniques part of you though. It requires hard hard work to keep your body functional too. How are you doing with the BOB by the way?

    3. Sorry to respond so late. I've been typing so much for my work and slacking on here.
I would rather train in person too if there was a good place like FMK here. With my kids, it's almost easier to do it here at home anyway so I don't have to have anybody else watch them.
You will probably get over being so self-conscious. I've been working on training outside lately. I feel sort of out of place, but I know I shouldn't. Hopefully I'll get used to it so I can feel more comfortable training outside.

I haven't gotten as much training done with BOB as I'd like. I have my boy by my feet so much of the time, I'm worried it will rock back on him. Eventually, I'll get more chances to work with it.

  2. Speaking of training live and progress videos, I failed on doing both. Sorry if I could not complete my assignments. I have been writing them down on a piece of paper which was a terrible idea and now I gotta rewrite them by typing. There's no chance for me to be ranked I guess... I am really sorry to fail you Shi zu.

    1. You shouldn't be training b/c of rank, you should be training b/c you love to train. Essentially if I wanted to, I could eliminate rank all together, but that does not mean we should stop training. Since you aren't working, you should be the most active online!

    2. You are right. I do love to train though. I guess sometimes I let the idea of rank get the best. I need a ego check.
