Difficulties of Training Alone

Since I'm not attending a school right now, I train by myself. I feel I'm never going to reach my full potential without a training partner. I would love to join a school but money is tight, and I'm struggling so that's not an option. I tried training with my brother, but he doesn't take it seriously and fucks around to much pisses me off. I tried asking some friends, but they all make excuses when the time comes to train even if we make a set date to train. It seems like everyone rather sit on their fat ass drink beer or play on their electronic devices. I give up, i don't know what to do.

  1. I suggest to join a gym in the mean time to at least keep the fitness and flexibility training going. They gym will not cost much money and you can get in a high energy environment and potentially meet people that are genuinely interested in the type of training that you do. The environment that you choose to train in makes a big difference, if you don't join a gym then I suggest you create the "perfect" training atmosphere in one of the rooms in your home that is strictly for training only.

  2. Definitely Sifu Freddie is right, get into the gym in order to set the routine for your mind for getting in shape . Then if you want to someday escape the monotony of driving to a gym, you realize there are options to train everywhere.

If you still wish to train and do not have even a room to call your own, then make the world your gym. Buy some resistance bands that are various strengths and take them with you into the forest. Tie them to a tree and you can do bicep, tricep, core work, etc. Try riding a bicycle if you want to build up your cardio without blowing out your knees. Spend each day hacking away at the unessentials, and 6 months down the road you will have improved exponentially from your TV watching brethren.

  3. Personally I see a lot of benefits of training alone, I just take it as an 1-3 hours for myself and to connect and get in touch with the Universe.

I can choose what I do, instead of someone telling me what to do, I can do what I please at the time, I do follow along with workouts at times, but once I got them down I just do them without playing the tape and put on some traditional chinese music. On my longest training sessions I start with some light yoga, them some specific warm up to my training, flexibility, kicking warm up, footwork practice, technique practice, and I might add a little bit of weapon training at the end, some bodyweight excersices for strength and finally meditation. I find that if I would go to a school I wouldn't be able to do all that. With all the warm ups, yoga and stuff it takes me about two hours and a half, maybe three hours of training because I take my time, I relax, I kinda flow with it..
And I feel great at the end, of course, I'm not keeping it high intensity all the time, that would destroy me. At the beginning when warming up and stuff, is very light work, then it starts getting a little bit tougher and more high intensity but I never go overboard with it.

And since I started training with the music, I wouldn't go back to train without it ever again.

  4. With that said, that it's just me and my current state. I'm at a point where it just feels good to train like that, alone.

I have tried training with my brother but it didn't work out, and I'm not happy about going to schools, because simply, I consider the training to be unbalanced, specially since there's tons of MMA gyms around, and contact sport.

  5. I run alone and bike alone but I understand about having partners in training for martial arts. It really does help and two or more motivated people can really help each other to become better. I am going to wish for you more money!
