When I read this quote, I think about Bruce Lee pointing towards the moon in "Enter the Dragon." Bruce can never give you the moon, but he can point you towards the moon so that you can see it for yourself.
When teaching Martial Arts, I cannot give people special superhuman abilities but I can help inspire and motivate them to train and develop themselves to achieve their potential. Talent and skill cannot just be transferred but an individual can inspire one towards the path of development.
When people say, my teacher can do this, my teacher can do that. It does not mean anything, your teacher cannot give you what he knows but he can inspire you on the journey towards knowing yourself.
To me it's a beautiful when one discovers to expresses one's self honestly through martial arts, because martial arts is an art form.
